FIFA launched a new international men’s football competition called the “FIFA Series” during international breaks. 20 teams from all six FIFA confederations will participate in the pilot project, playing in five groups hosted by Algeria, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, and Sri Lanka between March 18-26, 2024. FIFA President Infantino sees this as a positive step for national teams to compete more globally. While travel costs are covered, there are no trophies awarded for this friendly series, but bigger teams may be involved in the future.
